Three months of home-made food makes the prospect of dining out in a restaurant extremely appealing. I’ve been contemplating which restaurant I shall go for my first post-lockdown meal. As a Chongqinger who loves a bit of pungency and spiciness, I’ve developed a list of places to go when I crave for some hometown flavour.

Barshu 水月巴山 (28 Frith St, Soho, London W1D 5LF)

If I’m eating out, this would definitely make the shortlist every time. Authentic in flavour, with a range of familiar dishes, it certainly brings a feeling of being in Chengdu or Chongqing. One for a nice meal with family or visitors from China!

Chillicool Restaurant London 伦敦老成都 (15 Leigh St, Saint Pancras, London WC1H 9EW)

Located close to my university campus, this relatively small place is packed with memories of happy catchups and laughters with friends over steaming hot dishes. Great atmosphere and value!

Sichuan Restaurant and Karaoke Bar 川妹子 (Millenium Leisure Park, Bugsby’s Way, London SE10 0QJ)

My local sichuan restaurant, this place can be a great Chinese night out with large tables for groups and a karaoke room upstairs.

Haidilao Hot Pot 海底捞 (Unit 4/5 the Trocadero Centre the Piccadilly Centre, London W1D 7DH)

A famous Chinese institution, this is one of the most well known restaurant chains, famous for its exceptional service standards. With hotpot being a favourite food and a cultural pastime for many, this is the place to go for a fully immersive experience.

Mr. Meng 孟非的面 (103 Charing Cross Rd, Soho, London WC2H 0DT)

The celebrity host of the Chinese version of “Take-Me-Out” lends his name to this staple of Sichuan cuisine, Chongqing noodles. With a variety of toppings and meats, it has been a welcome, quick treat for many craving the delicious dish, including me!
